It’s my pleasure to welcome your child to my eighth grade classroom. I am very excited and looking forward to having them in class. As parents please keep in mind that you’re part of your child’s success. Now for a little about me…
I’m originally from downtown Chicago, growing up in the heart of the city. In my senior year of high school I applied and received the Golden Apple Scholars scholarship. The next four of my summers were spent having teacher preparatory courses and additional hours spent in classrooms on top of that I received in college. For college I continued my studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. While at U of I during my junior year I became passionate about teaching middle schoolers. I had the opportunity to first observe in a high school and then in a middle school. I felt at home in the middle school and brought up memories as well as an understanding that being a supportive adult in such an environment would be something I would be good at. In my spare time I enjoy writing on my blog, working out, and learning all about using technology especially in the classroom.
My goals for my students are as follows:* -Understand history as not just dates but always occurring and interdisciplinary. -Being able to say who the president and vice president of the United States. -Become thinkers in order to constantly discover and be curious about information and news. -Learn to navigate technology and understand how it’s useful to creating things and making what your learning come to life. . -Learn to be comfortable with routines and carry on certain strategies onto high school. -Understand how what they are learning relates to the bigger picture of the world. -Learning to discover things on your own and learn about various methods of researching in order to examine both opinions of the issue while also understanding contrary opinions.
My commitment to my students is huge. Being able to communicate with students and have a report with them is crucial to their future success in class. Being able to help them constantly improve and working on making lessons engaging and motivating to students makes learning fun. Through constant feedback of my teaching I will be able to make my teaching that much better.
In order to communicate with me, there will be numerous opportunities to. Among the more scheduled ways of communication, I first off am available during parent-teacher conferences. I will also be available with email. I check my email regularly and try to keep to a prompt response. I will not check email past 8pm but would be happy to respond in the morning. Feel free to schedule a meeting before or after school to chat about your student too. Depending on the new school year, I will consider holding virtual office hours via Skype or Google Hangouts but that will be an idea to be further explored. Informally you can chat with me during school events and other programs. Feel free to pass along notes or messages to me also via your student though email would be preferable due to having an electronic record. Phone calls can be made too.
In closing I look forward to having your student in class and am excited to talk to you through the school year.
Sincerely, Jonathan Davis [email protected] Cell: (312) 285 6988 School: (312) 9431556 Room 32
