Quality of feedback My philosophy of feedback is that feedback can only make you improve. As I student I loved feedback since it made me work harder and implement suggestions so I could become a better student. I will be honest in my feedback and will work towards quality feedback. Although I will be looking at grammar and structure, I do want to emphasis being able to use evidence when writing and being able to properly cite their sources.
Turn Around Time I will do my best to return my work promptly. If it’s a short assignment such as a small quiz or just for completion I will give that back within two or three days for sure. If it’s a larger project or longer assignment, I will have it completed within a two week period.
Grading system

Below 60 is F
School might have a separate policy that I'll have to abide by
Attendance: Students need to attend class, that's how you optimize your learning opportunities. Please attend class but also let me know if you’re unable to attend.
Participation will consist of four components: 1) Attendance 2) Class Preparedness 3) Small Group Work 4) Large Group Work 5) Individual Work
Absences and Tardy Procedure: Please be on time for class. Try to make sure you don't walk into class late. Absences happen. When you miss class it's on yourself using the checklist at the supplies desk to make sure you know what your homework is that you missed, have the notes you missed, and anything additional. You will also have an extra day to complete the work for each day you missed.
Homework/Missing Work: Homework needs to be turned in on time. The homework that needs to be turned in will be passed up to the front to the front row and then I will collect it. If you are absent you will be able to turn in the assignment one day late. I understand things come up and stuff happens. Students will be allowed to have two "get out of jail free" cards that can be turned in for homework assignments. Online homework will be put into the appropriate Google Drive folder. Assignments will be graded and returned within two weeks.
Use of Materials -Student materials on the student material desk are free to use at any time. -The materials on my desk are there for a reason. Please don't touch them unless you have explicit instructions to do so.
Student Participation -Students will be free to work on individual work anywhere in the classroom as long as it doesn't disturb others -Students will assign task for each group member to complete. At times it will be appropriate to work together in Google Drive for instance. Other times they will work separate from the group and reconvene to put the work together. Groups will be chosen by the teacher at times. Other times it will be up to the students.
Written Work Expectations Quality -Work will be expected to be looked over for proofreading before submitting. Work is to be done to the best of your ability. Formatting -Title of Assignment -Name, Period, and Date of Assignment
Signals -One signal that I will use is to yell "Who want's to travel the world?" then they will yell back "When's the plane leave?"
Directions (verbal and written) -I will provide written directions for assignments. Often times this will be in the form of bullets, numbered, or a series of checkboxes that students can complete. Verbal directions will be said clearly and students are encouraged to ask questions. Often times those verbal directions will as the year goes on will be available through a worksheet or handout for students that want it written out.
What's A Day In Class Like? Before Class -Student attendance will be taken. -Any students that weren't here the previous day will look on the classroom page to see what work was missed. -Students will have something to work on while I am getting situated for class. That can entail discuss with groups current events, reviewing the previous day's class materials, or talking quietly amongst themselves.
End of Class -I will tell students when they should start putting materials away. The personal spaces should be cleaned up and then put away. All documents and computer work will be saved and stored in the student Google Drive folders or shared network drive.
Rationale Have all necessary materials close at hand so that you can begin quickly. You will first need to check attendance. When you do, have students raise their hands (rather than call out) when you call their names so that you can begin to associate names with faces. Using this procedure conveys the idea that hand raising is more desirable than call-outs. Pronunciations and preferred names can be noted on the class roster at this time. If students must complete forms or class cards, or if you must take care of other administrative matters at this time, tell students what needs to be done and what behavior is expected of them; for example, “After you fill in the class cards, hold them at your seat until I call for them to be passed in.” To facilitate the completion of class cards or other forms, write the needed information on the chalkboard or display it on the overhead screen. *p78 classroom management book
In my own schooling experience I appreciated those teachers that took the time and effort to look through my work and provide feedback. That being said I understand that teachers have many things to do. With that the teachers I most resented were those that were extra nitpick about grammar and structure instead of the overall content of the work. Furthermore this provides a reason to why I want to ensure students are able to back up their evidence when writing and properly cite since those will be useful lifeskills. The research behind the grading system is based on that of the department, school, or district typically. As such the district or school will have standards of what percentage each grade entails. (Classroom Management book p51)
My attendance policy is based on the proven fact that students who do not attend school typically do not do as well in school. My rationale about students who have absences is that it is important to keep a “record of daily assignments on your class Web site, on a posted calendar, and/or in an accessible notebook will allow previously absent students to identify work to be made up” (p34). As for tardies I will have to clamp down as soon as possible about tardies in order to make sure it’s not a persistent problem. (P35)
My rationale for this is to be able to have students to turn in work swiftly and promptly. By being able to follow a routine of turning in work it makes the class run that much smoother and allows the class to move on. Since homework will be put into the appropriate Google Drive folder it eliminates the need for wasted paper and allows the teacher a far easier way to retrieve all the paper in the cloud. The materials that are at the table of supplies for students are absolutely allowed to be used by students. Since procedure will be given as to appropriate times to access such supplies this allows a flow of the classroom to develop without things becoming too distracting. That being said when it comes to things on my desk “they are not allowed to take things from your desk or use your (my) school supplies without permission” (p 36).
My rationale for students having to raise your hands during certain times is in order to ensure that people’s voices can be heard. By forcing students to raise their hands “before commenting or asking questions gives all students an opportunity to participate” (pg 38). The format for students writing is specific and outlined in order to articulate expectations. Ensuring they know these expectations are crucial for succeeding in the course. Signals are important because they call order to the students and indicate that attention needs to be shown as evidenced in (p42).
Directions will be provided in a clear and easy to understand manor. The beginning of class is a time where students should be settled in to their seats and will be able to “enable students to make the transition into your classroom in an orderly manner” (p70). Being able to help students in establishing “an end-of-period routine that helps your (my) students get ready to leave the room as they found it and in an orderly manner” (p76).
